How do you spell Gaddafi?
Muammar Gaddafi is not a name you expect to see alongside the adjectives “amusing”, “funny”, or “silly”, yet here we are.
It’s an amusing little video, a sharp contrast to the horrors the current Libyan leader is committing against his people, that makes fun of how hard it is to spell the Libyan dictator’s name. Simple production, with lots of slides and some funny music. Quite a contrast to the terror he is inflicting on his own people. Perhaps it’s too frivolous considering the man’s substantial and horrifying resume on human rights violations, but then again it might be just the subject that needs some levity.
Similar questions were raised in comedic mocking and interpretations of Adolf Hitler in Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator and Mel Brooks’ The Producers, two classics of American cinema. This video is doubtlessly not on that same level, but the comparison still stands. Interesting food for thought. See what you think and let us know in the comment section below!
