Samurai Sword Dance
Called ‘Sword Dance and Shadowgraph’ and performed by Taichi Saotome more than ten years ago, this is a live performer battling animated characters projected on a screen behind him. A remarkable performance of physical brilliance and timing. It’s quite well choreographed and great fun to watch. Exciting stuff.
It’s a unique piece of performance art, and is much closer to theater or opera than film. This video’s powerful images are what inspires us here at Deweymedia, no matter the method of presentation. There’s something almost primitive about the relationship to the samurai and the shadows, while the projection gives the performance and undeniable link to the modern world. It’s a fascinating duality, and the images are simple and evocative.
Skillful and imaginative, we can’t get enough of videos like this here. Comment below so we can see what your thoughts are!
