Private School Video
75 Years of Harkness Teaching at the Lawrenceville School
This private school video production offers insight from seven decades of Lawrenceville students on the importance of Harkness teaching in their Lawrenceville education. In the Harkness teaching method, a class is seated at a large, oval table, and the teacher guides the conversation, encouraging the students to share and learn from one another. It is similar to the Socratic method in that it encourages discourse and critical thinking.
The collaborative approach to learning imparted by the Harkness method works towards Lawrenceville’s mission of helping students to develop high standards of character and scholarship, a passion for learning, an appreciation for diversity, a global perspective, and strong commitments to personal, community, and environmental responsibility. With a healthy mix of archival stills with interview footage and larger beauty shots of the campus, we constructed a cohesive narrative in this private school video. First we establish the story of how the method arrived at Lawrenceville, and then through thoughtfully ordered successive interview subjects we guide the viewer through their learning experience over their years at the school. To unify the video’s look and feel, we maintain a constant visual style which is clean and effective.
