Conference Introduction Video
Polaris Ventures
This video was created by Paul Dewey for one of the partners at Polaris Ventures. He wrote the script, shot the voice over artist reading the copy, and then edited the piece, which simulates George Bush introducing the Polaris partner – the partner was speaking at a tech conference. Incidentally, the voice over guy was indeed the sound-alike voice of George Bush used in many Jib Jab productions.
The broad humor of the piece made it ideal for its use at the technology conference. Sure, it makes reference to one of the more famous Bushisms (“nucular, nucular, nucular!”) and there’s a barb about Dick Cheney singing karaoke, but as far as political satire goes it’s about as benign as it gets. The silliness of the piece set a specific tone that Polaris wanted as an introduction to their video.
Though the video is clearly comic, it served a particular purpose for the client. The conference introduction video informs the audience some general knowledge about Polaris Venture Partners, sets up expectations for the presentation to follow, and shows that, even though Polaris is a serious business, they are not afraid to be a little silly when the situation calls for it.
