Animated Video – MIT Soldier Research

This was one of a number of segments created for MIT’s Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies. This animated video, written and produced for MIT by deweymedia executive producer Paul Dewey, highlights microfluidics research at MIT’s Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies aka MIT’s ISN.

The piece uses animation to highlight microfluidic technologies that offer the foundation for more efficient protective battle suits for dismounted Army soldiers. Just as the technology being profiled is on the cutting edge of its industry, so too is the animation. With advanced 3d modeling, the adept animators bring the microfluidic technologies to life, revealing to the viewer the goals and function of the futuristic body armor design.

Animation is becoming more and more an integral piece of video for a variety of reasons: it can be more cost effective than sending a team into the field to do a shoot, it makes branding easier to a company’s already set visual style, and because when it’s done well it can capture the imagination of its audience and effortlessly communicate visually something that would be incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to do with live action.

It’s not always the right decision for a given project, but when it happens to be the right fit a good animation can make all the difference for your video.
