How do you relate the Palestinian Israeli strife an American audience?  You make it an ‘American’ story.  That’s what writer/director Cherien Dabis has done in her first feature – Amreeka.  Dabis, who also wrote for The L Word, has hit the creative jackpot with her new ‘outsider’ feature that has been raking in prizes at Cannes and Sundance.  Dabis has brilliantly executed the delicate dance between dead serious issues and intimate comedic moments that are rarely done well.  This is a must see movie, so put it on your viewing list this fall.  To read a full review by Caryn James of the Daily Beast (Click here).
